The paper was pink and tear stained
From years of loneliness and pain
The words spoke of doubt and of dread
But ending with understanding, the letter said:
Daddy, I miss you with all my heart
Thanks for giving my life a start
When they sent you far away to fight
I was too young to know fright
I couldn't understand why you weren't home
Holding me in your arms where I belong
Then one day a man came to the door
He said my daddy wouldn't be home anymore
Daddy, I cried the day you died
God, how I hurt so deep inside
For all these years, since you went away
I kept asking God if it was to make me pay
Daddy, I did nothing that was so wrong
But others had daddies while mine was gone
Then one day I was no longer sad
I knew you were in heaven (you're my Angel Dad)
