A fellow worker, Ray, who lived
locally planned a trip for a few of us to Leigh Lake. I was invited along,
but didn't have the whole story. We drove to the end of the
road (here), which turned out to be a trailhead (starting point of a trail).
But he pointed up there (the snow part) as where were going.
Huh? Lakes aren't
on tops of mountains. It was very confusing.

|
I and the three others of
the party, followed Ray, our leader, up the side of this mountain.
I thought after a while that had I just misunderstood about going
to some lake. There's no lake on top of a mountain. Right?
|
|
And we continued a steep
climb. The "trail" in some places was up the side of
rock walls with finger and foot holds.. |
|
Going up, the bushes were
loaded with blueberries and along the ground were wild
strawberries. All delicious. That's me loading up. |
|
There seems to be a
flatter place up higher. |
|
Approaching a ridge, and
a sharp cliff in the distance. |
|
Finally getting over the
ridge, there was a whole huge lake, with waterfalls all over a giant
cliff. Absolutely beautiful. I just stood there gawking in all
directions. I never expected anything like this.
(Looking west).
|
|
To the south, there was this view.
I climbed this later for more pictures.
|
|
Looking southwest. |
|
I climbed the south side
for another view of the lake. The others stayed at the lake and
fished.
There was a tunnel under one glacier (not shown) with a shallow
stream. Large fish were swimming up the stream to spawn, and we
caught them with our bare hands.
